The YCL-650 is a beloved current product, but this is an early model manufactured between 1993 and 1996. While the current 650 uses white leather pads, this model used fish skin pads. Fish skin pads are soft and less durable than white leather, but they produce an expressive, gentle tone and are easy for beginners to play. This clarinet is very close to a custom model, offers excellent cost performance, and is a just-right grade that can be used for a long time.
The body is made of high-grade Grenadilla wood, achieving a balance of tone and excellent resonance within a rich sound. It offers a moderate resistance, providing a satisfying playing experience, and its appearance boasts a high-class finish similar to custom models. This is a high-cost performance model that combines high performance with an affordable price. The bell, barrel, and tone holes are very similar to those of the custom SE-V, characterized by a warm and mellow tone. The tapered tone holes are further undercut to achieve precise intonation and tonal balance. The hand-assembled keys are designed for a comfortable touch and perfectly balanced. The natural finish of the body, which brings out the grain of the wood, not only enhances its appearance but also improves the sound. Additionally, the adjustable thumb rest improves playability.
