Due to the subtle differences in picking nuances, the distortion is more natural and has a wider range than conventional diode-clip overdrive, with less compression.
The OCD achieves a tube-like distortion through a unique combination of overdriving a JFET op-amp and hard-clipping a pair of MOSFETs in the latter half of the circuit. Its high output volume allows it to be driven much harder than typical overdrive pedals.
Changes in V2 include the "Enhanced Bypass" feature, which sets both switching FETs to Class A and configures the FETs for gain. This ensures that even with minimal gain, all dynamics are buffered at 0.3-0.06dB. Regardless of placement on the pedalboard, the sound remains consistent, positively impacting the sound, reducing strain on the pedal's hard-clipping stage, and improving sustain in both sound and overtones. Furthermore, a Class A discrete 2N5457 JFET input section increases the input impedance to 1 megohm (previously 330K), improving dynamics. An internal switch allows selection between the new "Enhanced Bypass" and "True-Bypass" modes.
