The Selmer Mark VI is a historic model that became the prototype for current saxophones and established Selmer as a top brand. This particular instrument was made around 1973 and is believed to be a "flacel" based on its model number, color, and characteristics.
"Flacel" refers to saxophones made by Selmer Paris in France, which used a baked lacquer finish.
While the coating is thick, it is resistant to corrosion and produces a slightly harder, bright, and powerful tone, making it suitable for classical performers.
It is said that baked lacquer finishes take some time to "open up" when first played, but as a vintage item, this saxophone has become easy to play.
